I just wanted to jot down a few thoughts before I forgot them!
As a thank you gift, I gave old bay to my host family. I kept telling them that it's good on seafood and crabs, but they think it will be better on chicken! The old bay wings at Bateman's are pretty good, so maybe they're onto something.
Speaking of my host family, even though my host mother and I can't converse much, she has already asked me if I was a hyperactive child. Do I come across as that hyperactive?
Yesterday I went to Salcaja and saw one of the oldest churches in Central America.
This church was built in the 1400s. Que anciana! After we visited the church, we went to a house where a women and her husband make homemade fruit rum called caldo de frutas. This stuff is super sweet and possibly better than gifiti!
If you know what gifiti is, you might understand this next part. I keep saying cheque leque, but no one here knows what I mean.
I'll leave you with this thought: I spoke to my mom earlier this week (Hi mom!) and she asked me how does it feel travellingsolo and being in a new country. She asked if I was scared. I responded no, this just feels normal. I feel like I should be doing this.
!Hola mi hijo! What a beautiful church! I see how comfortable you are traveling the world. Not long ago I remember a bright, busy, independent young man who was a creator and dreamer who grew up. There's no doubt in my mind that you will follow your dreams and help others along the way.
ResponderBorrarMonica. Aka mami
Thanks mom! I really appreciate hearing that.
BorrarDuuuuude I've been cooking a lot of chicken lately and seasoning it with Old Bay is awesome. I thought it was a weird idea but turned out to be really good.
ResponderBorrarI hope everything is swell! I find myself bring you up in conversation a lot. It turns out a lot of people are jealous of your current path in life and they wish they could do the same. April (my roommate) says she knows a girl who went to John Carroll that is from Guatamala. Apparently she lives there now. April is curious to see if there is a connection between the girl who picked you up and the person she knows.
Are the roads different? What about the money? Does the toilet spiral the other way- are there even toilets? Clean water? Is the tequila smooth? Basically what I'm trying to ask is: is there anything drastically different there compared to here?
Lots of love,
(Yo sis,)
(Coolest person ever,)
Nicole
Haha I just made shrimp with old bay for my family and friends at the school and they loved it!
BorrarEverything is great here! Apparently I bring you up in conversation a lot too haha. Everyone says I should move in with you in Florida after I get back because I'll probably use my spanish more in Florida than back home!
Nah, the girl who picked me up was a friend from Towson University so April probably does not know her.
The roads are in bad shape and I ride a chicken bus to get to other towns. A chicken bus is basically a school bus that is now used as greyhound buses by the people down here. There's toilets and a walmart, it's all just a bit dirtier here than in the states. The tequila is alright, but it's hard to find great beer down here haha!
I'll keep taking pictures and you can tell me what seems different!
Hahaha amazing!!! This is a great post. So exciting!
ResponderBorrarThanks so much!
